Kia Bailey’s journey to small business ownership began with a desire for a better work-life balance. As a solo mum to two young children and previously working long hours in a stressful job with a lengthy commute, Kia made the move to the Blue Mountains and decided it was time for a change. In the local Katoomba Centrelink, a yellow brochure for Sydney Business caught her attention. Initially skeptical about the level of support on offer, Kia soon discovered the opportunities that lay ahead through the Self-Employment Assistance program.
Sometimes the best business ideas are born from the most personal of problems. For one music enthusiast, discovering that years of cherished vinyl records had been damaged by mould while in storage could have been a devastating blow. Instead, it sparked the beginning of an extraordinary entrepreneurial journey.
In 2023, Lyndall saw a gap in the pet food market and founded The Pawfect Butcher, a business dedicated to providing human-grade, premium dog and cat food. Frustrated by the dominance of processed dry foods and their impact on pets’ health, Lyndall and the team set out to create fresh, ethically sourced meals based on raw feeding principles. Every ingredient is carefully chosen, with a focus on quality, ethical sourcing, and organic produce – resulting in happier, healthier pets and peace of mind for their owners.
My name is Hope, and I’m a self-employed Graphic Designer running my own studio, Blanc Design Studio. Through Blanc, I offer a comprehensive, end to end branding experience, guiding businesses from concept to a fully realised identity. My services encompass strategic branding, custom website design, professional brand photography and tailored design solutions, ensuring every element of my clients brand is cohesive and intentional.
I officially launched my business on the 17th of August 2023, a little over two years ago now. My decision to become a graphic designer came from a lifelong love of design, a fascination with branding and a natural knack for anything tech related.

After immigrating to Australia from Iran, where he had completed a degree in computer hardware, Mostafa worked as a painter/decorator and also found work in an electronics repair business.
Jason had a long and successful career in the Australian Defence Force, and during this time he developed an interest in health and fitness. After transitioning out of the defence force, Jason decided to start his own personal training business with the help of the New Business Assistance with NEIS program.
Jason Winters had a successful 15-year career in the Australian Defence Force (ADF). Jason received the Australian Defence Medal and the Australian Infantry Medal in recognition of his years of service.
Imagine a world with more trees, fruits and flowers. It’s a fine balance gardening in the urban environment with all the pressures of the modern world including the coronavirus. This is where Nicolas Farrer comes in. In late 2017 Nicolas approached Sydney Business about the possibility of joining the Federal Government’s New Enterprise Incentive Scheme (NEIS). He had an idea of developing Kid’s Micro Greens sunflower Seed Bomb kits which would be a fun way to grow micro greens at home, school or in the office.
Monica Appiah
Monica Appiah – From Le Chic Hair and Beauty Salon. Monica had done hairdressing in Africa prior to coming to Australia and with the help of Sydney Business she commenced her own salon in Guildford. She has a well-established customer based who regularly visit her salon.
Erin Timony
Erin Timony completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree, Jewellery Major at the College of Fine Arts, Paddington between 2001-05 and then worked as a Jeweller for a number of businesses in Sydney. She had always dreamed of opening her own Bespoke Fine Jewellery business which she did through study with Sydney Business and the NEIS Program. Her business continues to grow focusing on couples getting married and those who wish to have a unique gift or those who want older jewellery re-modelled. She has won various awards for her one off designs.
Ehssan Sakhaee
He approached Sydney Business with an idea to create his own Corporate Executive Training aimed at high tech professionals. He has a Ph. D in Engineering and a B.E. (Hons) in Computer Engineering from the University of Sydney and completed his Post Graduate Teaching at the Osaka University. He commenced his NEIS business and his “Leadership in high-tech industries” seminars are well attended.
Juan Bogaz
Juan Bogaz – This Chilean born mature age student has come from an Electrical Engineering background and got his first job at General Motors Holden in 1997 and worked in engineering roles up until 2010. Since then he has found it difficult to get employment. During his life his passion has been music. His band in Chile even had a Recording Contract with RCA Records. So he decided he would set up a Music Tutoring business. He approached Sydney Business and he established his own Music Studio.

Business Enterprise Centre Northside Ltd was formally incorporated in 1991 by the local community with the objective of alleviating unemployment through Training and Business Development assistance.
Sydney Business is a charity, non-government organisation that provides services on behalf of the Australian and New South Wales government, local councils and local business communities.
