You can book up to 2 free one-hour sessions every 12 months (eligibility rules apply).
These sessions may involve:
GAINING ADVICE ON ESTABLISHING YOUR BUSINESS
IMPROVING YOUR BUSINESS’ FINANCIAL POSITION
A RANGE OF OTHER SMALL BUSINESS-RELATED MATTERS TO SUIT YOUR NEEDS.
Sydney Business offers short term business advice for your existing or proposed business.
You could be eligible to access up to 2 one-hour business advice sessions and your business advice sessions is tailored to your specific needs
Business advice sessions are available if you:
- Are starting a business and want to gain some advice in starting up
- Have an existing business but need some advice on a particular issue to improve your commercial viability
- Have previously undertaken New Business Assistance with NEIS or Small Business Coaching and would like some additional support
ARE YOU ELIGIBLE?
To access any Service a Participant must have a business idea or existing business that meets the Business Eligibility Criteria, apart from Exploring Self-Employment Workshops or a Business Advice Session.
Before completing a Self-Employment Assistance application with Sydney Business, you will need to check the eligibility conditions below to see if you, or your business, can apply for a suitable program.
Individuals who apply for Self-Employment Assistance must:
- be available to participate in training and work the required hours in the proposed business
- be eligible to work in Australia
- not be an overseas visitor on a working holiday visa or an overseas student studying in Australia
- not be an undischarged bankrupt
- not have participated in Self-Employment Assistance in the past year
- be at least 15 years of age (noting that a person must be 18 years of age to access Small Business Coaching)

BUSINESS ELIGIBILITY
The business you want to establish with Self-Employment Assistance must:
- not currently be operating on a commercial basis (if applying as a new business)
- be independent, be capable of withstanding public scrutiny, and be lawful
- be assessed as commercially viable
- be able to obtain insurance
- controlled, managed and physically located in Australia
- If you’re applying as an existing business, you must to demonstrate that you require assistance to remain viable.
