Small business coaching provides you with the business skills you need to start and run a small business and will help you pick the qualification that best helps you achieve your small business goals.
Small Business Coaching will provide eligible Participants with:
ACCESS TO PERSONALISED BUSINESS MENTORING AND SUPPORT FOR UP TO 12 MONTHS
SUPPORT FOR UP TO $300 WORTH OF SMALL BUSINESS START-UP COSTS, SUCH AS BUSINESS INSURANCE
AN ALLOWANCE FOR UP TO 39 WEEKS AND RENTAL ASSISTANCE FOR UP TO 26 WEEKS (ELIGIBILITY RULES APPLY).
What is Self-Employment Assistance and how can it help me?
Self-Employment Assistance is a government initiative that helps new entrepreneurs, who meet the program eligibility, get their business idea off the ground.
When you apply through Sydney Business, we help you with the application process, and provide access to ongoing training, support and mentoring as you establish your business.
When you Commence in Small Business Coaching you will receive:
- 12 Months of Coaching Support
- Access to Masterclass Sessions to further develop your business skills
- Access to Local Business Networking events
- Up to $300 (GST inclusive) of Support for eligible Business Costs
- Self-Employment Assistance Allowance (if eligible)
- Self-Employment Assistance Rental Assistance (if eligible)

ARE YOU ELIGIBLE?
Before completing a Self-Employment Assistance application with Sydney Business, you will need to check the eligibility conditions below to see if you, or your business, can apply for a suitable program.
Individuals who apply for Self-Employment Assistance must:
- be available to participate in training and work the required hours in the proposed business
- be eligible to work in Australia
- not be an overseas visitor on a working holiday visa or an overseas student studying in Australia
- not be an undischarged bankrupt
- not have participated in Self-Employment Assistance in the past year
- be at least 15 years of age (noting that a person must be 18 years of age to access Small Business Coaching)

BUSINESS ELIGIBILITY
The business you want to establish with Self-Employment Assistance must:
- not currently be operating on a commercial basis (if applying as a new business)
- be independent, be capable of withstanding public scrutiny, and be lawful
- be assessed as commercially viable
- be able to obtain insurance
- controlled, managed and physically located in Australia
- If you’re applying as an existing business, you must to demonstrate that you require assistance to remain viable.

Self-Employment Assistance Payments
INCOME SUPPORT
You may be eligible to receive financial support via Self-Employment Assistance allowance if you receive an Income Support payment from Services Australia or the Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA) before transferring to the allowance.
The allowance is available for up to 39 weeks. You may also be eligible to receive Rental Assistance for up to 26 weeks.
