Description
This qualification reflects the role of individuals establishing or operating a business providing self-employment, as well as those establishing a new venture as part of a larger organisation. These individuals use well developed skills and a broad knowledge base to solve a range of unpredictable problems and analyse and evaluate information from a variety of sources. They may provide leadership and guidance to others and have responsibility for the output of others.

Entry Requirements
There are no entry requirements. However, to be eligible to access Small Business Training under the Self-Employment Assistance program, you must meet the Participant Eligibility criteria and your business idea must meet the Business Eligibility criteria.

Support Services
Before commencing Small Business Training, please inform Sydney Business with any additional assistance required (e.g., Participants from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, with literacy or numeracy issues, with limited access to the internet) so that arrangements can be made to provide additional learner support.
Funding entitlements
Small Business Training courses under the Self-Employment Assistance program are funded by Department of Education, Skills and Employment.
Individuals who apply for Self-Employment Assistance must:
- be available to participate in training and work the required hours in the proposed business
- be eligible to work in Australia
- not be an overseas visitor on a working holiday visa or an overseas student studying in Australia
- not be an undischarged bankrupt
- not have participated in Self-Employment Assistance in the past year
- be at least 15 years of age (noting that a person must be 18 years of age to access Small Business Coaching)

BUSINESS ELIGIBILITY
The business you want to establish with Self-Employment Assistance must:
- not currently be operating on a commercial basis (if applying as a new business)
- be independent, be capable of withstanding public scrutiny, and be lawful
- be assessed as commercially viable
- be able to obtain insurance
- controlled, managed and physically located in Australia
- If you’re applying as an existing business, you must to demonstrate that you require assistance to remain viable.
