We acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land in which we live, work and play. We pay our respects to the Elders – past, present and emerging. They are the wisdom and knowledge holders, the storytellers, of the ancestors of these lands who have cared for and lived spiritually as one for many generations with our environment.
About Sydney Business and how we can help develop your business
In 2015, Murray embarked on his entrepreneurial adventure by launching a business dedicated to producing and supplying items such as school ribbons, pennants, banners, mugs, cups, plaques, and badges. These products were perfect for celebrating academic achievements, commemorating special events, and recognising sports accomplishments. However, when the COVID-19 pandemic hit, Murray faced significant challenges that disrupted his operations. Recognising that his business was not functioning effectively, he sought help.
In July 2024, Murray reached out to Sydney Business seeking guidance. He scheduled a Business Health Check, where the Sydney Business team conducted a thorough analysis of his operations, developing a clear action plan to enhance the business’ viability while exploring additional resources that could aid him.
As part of this process, Sydney Business recommended that Murray enrol in the Small Business Training – Micro Business Skill Set (BSBSS00102). This program proved to be the perfect fit, not only to help him achieve his small business objectives but also to support his personal journey. Coming out of an operation for cancer in September 2023 and continuing a long series of post-op radiation therapy that took him into 2024, the timing of the Small Business Training course was a perfect way for Murray to rejoin the workforce and, importantly, support his mental health. Murray emphasised,
“Sydney Business was there as a great support throughout this period.”
With newfound clarity, Murray diligently crafted a Business Plan that focused on the necessary steps for success, receiving personalised support and resources throughout the process. Following its completion, Sydney Business evaluated the plan’s viability and offered constructive feedback.
Determined to elevate his entrepreneurial skills further, Murray completed a Certificate IV in Entrepreneurship and New Business (BSB40320) while participating in the Small Business Coaching program. Reflecting on the experience, Murray stated,
“I am very satisfied with the training and resources Sydney Business supplied. Being able to apply hands-on strategies to make my business work, along with their support and ideas, has been invaluable for me. The training was well delivered, easy to digest, and all subjects were totally relevant to my needs.”
Joining the Small Business Coaching program provided Murray with 12 months of mentoring and access to $300 in small business start-up funding, which he utilised for purchasing stock. As 2025 progressed, his dedication and effort began to yield results. Murray secured consistent contracts with schools, which not only boosted his income but also his confidence.
With his momentum steadily increasing, Murray expanded his network, forged new contracts, and understood the importance of nurturing relationships through open communication, which fostered customer loyalty and repeat business. His proactive marketing strategies drew interest from private high schools and the music industry, further amplifying his success.
Murray’s story is a powerful testament to the support and training provided by Sydney Business, which equipped him with the essential skills and confidence needed to navigate his entrepreneurial journey. Today, he stands proud as a thriving business owner, excited about the endless possibilities that await him. In his own words, Murray shared,
“I recommend Sydney Business when you want to expand your business knowledge and make your business successful.”
