NEIS Spotlight – Meet Cafe Camino Events and Catering

Rodger Macready has walked the Camino de Santiago in Spain twice, a distance of 800km. This pilgrimage has been undertaken by people as far back as the 9^th Century and so it was Rodger’s love of Spain and its food that made him approach Sydney Business for assistance to establish Café Camino Events & Catering.

His dream was to bring the atmosphere, energy and the taste and flavours of Spain to venues, markets, festivals and people’s homes. His mix of paellas, mixed seafood, chicken and chorizo are now becoming renowned, as is their variety of canapes and tapas. After completing a Business Plan with the help of Sydney Business, Roger commenced his business.

Together with his Head Chef, Marco Jaeger, the team are now looking at ways in which they can expand by training a number of teams to make the paella.

“The business is now well established and we are very thankful for the help provided to us by Sydney Business” Rodger said.

Simpler BAS offer for new small businesses

If you are a new small business, you can start using the simpler BAS ahead of the full implementation date of 1 July 2017.

To start reporting GST using the simpler BAS, you need to have:

• Started your business and registered for GST on or after 19 January 2017
• An annual turnover of less than $2 million.

With the simpler BAS, you only need to report:

• GST on sales
• GST on purchases
• Total sales

Do you pay super contributions?

The 28 January deadline to pay Superannuation Guarantee (SG) quarterly payment is fast approaching.

Here are some simple steps to make sure you have it covered:

• check if workers are eligible for super
• pay the right amount – currently 9.5% of ordinary time earnings
• pay on time – at a minimum, quarterly
• pay into a complying super fund, ensuring employees are given a choice of fund
• pay the right way using SuperStream
• keep records that show your SG obligations have been met.
